Nursing Home Performances
April 2017 saw the first 2 concerts at local Nursing Homes by ASO musicians.
At 2pm on Friday, April 7th Concertmaster Genaro Medina and 1st violin staple Caryn Moore took the stage at Garvey Manor in Hollidaysburg (at left below) ... wowing 3 rows of about 15 residents each with their skillful violin music. First playing together as a duet ... then taking turns with solos that enriched the senior citizens' day by providing them with a rare, LIVE Classic music escape.
Then at 2:30pm that same day it was time for a slightly smaller size group of residents at the Presbyterian Village in Hollidaysburg to enjoy 2 other ASO-musicians ... playing 2 different instruments. John Roxburgh is the Principal viola player at the ASO, and Ryan Hoffman a seasoned Cello-player who has played with the ASO for numerous years ...
Plus -as the picture on the right proves- Ryan is also a "Cat-Charmer" (-; Resident cat Cosmo came out during Ryan's first piece and planted himself right in front of Ryan ... seemingly engaging in a "stare-down", as Ryan was clearly bemused by Cosmo's obvious display of music-appreciation.
This picture did also feature on the Altoona Mirror Community-Section front page on April 30th.
Going forward the ASO is planning on programs like these on Thursdays and/or Fridays before each
Concert-Saturday ... using a broad variety of instruments from any of the ASO's different sections (strings, winds, brass ... even percussion !)
